Greener choices - lighting v. ambulance call-outs 🚨 David Poxton, Chief Executive of Ashmere Derbyshire is clear that any uplift in electricity bills associated with circadian lighting is marginal compared to other demands on the system. This small increase is set in context by another of our speakers, Leanne Scrogham (CMgr MCMI) of Hartland House, who points out that preventing falls using a smart lighting system like Nobi System could reduce falls by up to 84%. Given that 43% of falls result in an ambulance call-out, costing £252 each on average, this simple intervention could save the NHS £156,500 every single day - and cut the carbon footprint too. Saving two days' staff absence in 11 months👩🏻‍💼👨🏻‍💼 Another guest at our Innovators in Healthcare event, Jim Hempel, Care Home Manager at Herluf Troffe Care Home in Denmark explains that, thanks to the Chromaviso circadian lighting system, some staff had more energy during the day. They complained of fewer headaches compared to the standard lighting and night shift workers found it easier to sleep when they got home. Over a period of 11 months, staff in the house with circadian lighting had two days less sickness than the rest of the house. Given the cost of staff - and the impact of staff absence on quality and continuity of care, that's a win-win-win. With thanks to Jim Hempel for his passion and determination.
